What kind of tasks does an administrator do?

Office administration can cover a whole host of tasks, with the role adapting to the needs of the business. Generally the role will include:

  • Typing duties
  • Data input of correspondence and official documents on to a CRM system. This could be as well as or instead of a paper filing system.
  • Photocopying, scanning, ordering office supplies
  • Managing incoming calls by taking messages and directing to the right people
  • Managing post
  • Diary management for other members of staff

Although many office administration tasks are repetitive they also offer variety, responding to the different needs of the office.

Salaries can vary depending on number of hours, experience, and skills needed. An estimated starting salary would be £14,000 going up to £20,000. A job in office administration can also lead to a job as a secretary or PA.
