Due to continued growth they have an opportunity for a talented Electrical Engineering professional, to join the business as a Senior Secondary Applications Engineer.
As a key member of our UK Engineering Team, you'll play a crucial role in delivering innovative design, protection, and control systems for high-voltage power transmission projects up to 400kV.
What you’ll do:
- Design & Engineering: Develop secondary systems, control, and protection solutions to meet contract specifications, focusing on designs up to 400kV.
- Project Delivery: Contribute to the effective delivery of projects by preparing and verifying:
- Design Intent Documents (DID).
- Technical specifications and RFQs for plant and P&C equipment.
- Secondary designs, including SLD, KLD, AC & DC distribution systems, voltage drop, battery sizing, signal lists, cable schedules, and more.
- Electrical characteristics and specifications for CTs & VTs.
- Approval of supplier designs for a range of equipment, incorporating vendor information into the design.
- Technical Support: Provide technical assistance during tendering, FAT, and commissioning, while working within defined budgetary constraints.
- Problem Solving: Address deviations from specifications, suggest corrective actions, and resolve engineering issues in collaboration with project managers.
- Collaboration: Coordinate with clients, project management, primary/civil teams, and other stakeholders to ensure timely, high-quality technical outputs.
- Mentorship & Leadership: Mentor team members and lead design and hazard review meetings to promote safety and compliance with industry standards.
Required Experience & Skills:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
- Experience: Extensive experience in power transmission and distribution (11kV to 400kV). Experience as a CDAE/LCDAE (per National Grid NG/ET/SR188 procedure) is a strong advantage.
- Professional Membership: Member of a professional body such as the IET; Chartered status or working towards it is desirable.
- Technical Expertise:
- Deep understanding of secondary engineering for GIS and AIS substations.
- Familiarity with DNO/National Grid standards and practices.
- Knowledge of communication protocols (IEC101, IEC104, IEC61850) and security standards (IEC 62443, ISO 27019).
- HSQE management knowledge, including CDM regulations, is desirable.
- Skills: Proficiency in Windows, MS Office, Amtech, AutoCAD, and electronic records management systems.
- Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-national, multi-cultural team while managing tight deadlines.
