The Role: Electrical Commissioning Engineer

Location: Devonport – full time site based

Duration: 12 Months + Contract

Industry: Nuclear

Hours: 37 per week

Pay: Inside IR35

Project: NDA Defence

Clearance required: SC, can start on BPSS

Role Description

  • Delivering commissioning projects to meet the appropriate national legal requirements and Client's requirement specification.  The EC&I Commissioning engineer reports to the commissioning manager and provides front line supervision of the electrical commissioning to BS7671 & BS2391
  • To provide site support and technical oversight in preparation for and during commissioning on Fleet 22 project. 
  • Safely implement and manage allocated commissioning packages of work in line with project requirements, technical and regulatory standards and specifications.  Prepare/Review/Implement Setting to work/SAT documents. 
  • To plan, assess and generate Safe Systems of Work and where applicable Manage the subsequent implementation of the allocated work scope in accordance with the commissioning strategy and commissioning safety plan

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all activities in line with Company, Customer and project requirements, defines and implements the Commissioning Strategy for the project.
  • Be the focal point for the Company, Customer and sub-contractors.
  • Ensure all activities are planned, assessed and managed so that risks or hazards are adequately identified and controlled to ensure compliance with relevant Company and Customer standards, expectations, rules and procedures.
  • Set and uphold standards and expectations in line with Company initiatives such as People Who Do The Right Thing and People Who Lead Safely.
  • Organise and obtain sufficient resources to deliver the applicable work scope as described in the contract and/or project documentation.
  • Oversee the implementation of work to ensure that it meets the required technical and quality standards - hence delivered right first time.
  • Ensure suitable Safe Systems of Work (Risk Assessments, Methods Statements etc.) are produced so that supervisors and work teams can be effectively set to work, supervised and are provided with adequate instruction and information so as to complete the work task safely.
  • Manage and control sub-contractors where applicable.
  • Review and assess training and competency records of personnel (including those of sub-contractors) to ensure that those assigned to undertake tasks are competent to do so.
  • Provide regular reports, information and statistics to the Company and/or Customer to demonstrate performance against Safety, Quality, Time and Cost criteria.
  • Carry out regular workplace inspections to ensure compliance with relevant Company and Customer standards, expectations, rules and procedures.
  • Immediately report any unplanned events or incidents in line with Company and Customer procedures.

Experience/Qualifications/Skills

  • 18TH Edition IEE wiring regulations, time served electrical apprenticeship, electrical qualification HNC/HND or minimum City and guilds level 2.  Ideally BS2391 testing qualified. 
  • Vocational Qualification Level 6 / Bachelor's Degree / SVQ Level 4
  • Membership of an appropriate Engineering Institution

Or

  • NVQ Level 4 / HNC-HND / SVQ Level 3 augmented with specific experience
  • Membership of an appropriate Engineering Institution

Specific Requirements

  • IOSH Managing Safely

Experience

  • Demonstrable experience of undertaking complex commissioning projects in a highly regulated environment (preferably Nuclear).

Minimum level of Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 4 / HNC-HND / SVQ Level 3 augmented with specific experience

Special Requirements

  • This is an appointed role under IO-PRD-006.
  • Appointment as a Risk Assessor as per IO-PRD-006 also required.
  • Travel may be required to fulfil the responsibilities of the role
