Purpose of the job
The Senior EC&I Engineer defines and distributes the scope of work to ensure that the project is executed safely, on time and at appropriate levels of quality. The Senior EC&I Engineer is responsible for the delivery of design and engineering to meet the requirements technical specification.
Key Accountabilities
- Development of designs to satisfy the technical specification,
- Production of design deliverables throughout the design process,
- Checking/approval of discipline specific design deliverables,
- Contribution to design reviews and safety reviews,
- Ensuring quality and timely delivery of design documentation throughout all phases of the design process,
- Compliance with safety legislation and statutory regulations,
- Develop cost effective technical solutions,
- Staff development,
- Managing safety by developing and reinforcing the safety culture,
- Management of contractors,
- Provide technical consultancy.
Profile
Occupational Skills and Knowledge
· Degree qualified in a relevant technical / engineering discipline or demonstrable experience,
· Working towards, or already have, Chartership in a discipline specific engineering institution.
Duties and Requirements
Essential
· Strong understanding of the fundamentals within your engineering discipline
· Significant experience in two or more of the following specific EC&I areas:
o Mechanical Handling (including Remote in-cell handling)
o Process Instrumentation
o Functional Safety (to BS EN 61508/BS EN 61511)
o Machinery Safety (including BS EN 60204 and BS EN 13849)
o LV Distribution Systems (including experience in Trimble Pro-design)
· Previous experience of working within the nuclear industry,
· Proven track record of successfully delivering design solutions,
· Understanding of design requirements to support nuclear safety cases,
· Good understanding of safety legislation and statutory regulations,
· Strong organisational and interpersonal skills,
· Good level of commercial awareness,
· Experience of leading design teams,
· Experience of managing sub-contracts.
Desirable
- Full membership of a discipline specific engineering institution,
- A full UK driving licence
- EC&I design integration with control systems (PLC/SCADA) would be advantageous.
- Experience of Design Substantiation to support safety cases including assessment of new and existing systems.
- Experience of bid preparation
- Current SC Security Clearance advantageous
