2014 Resolutions
01 Dec 2015
With the New Year comes New Year’s resolutions and the staff at First Recruitment are no exception. As is the usual theme, the majority of resolutions are to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle. However, I have found a few more interesting ones.
Here are a few examples of the resolutions First Recruitment staff have made this year:
Sharon Kenyon – Senior Recruitment Consultant (C&S Design)
Resolution - Lose weight
My New Years resolution is to lose 3 stone by Summer. I’m well known in the office for being on a different diet every other week, but this year I intend to stick to it and work really hard at it. I’m using the ‘My Fitness Plan’ app to record what I’m eating and keep count of the calories.
I’m allowing myself 1250 calories a day and I’m going to the gym and swimming 3 times a week. Being a single mum of two it can be difficult to find the time, so I’ve been taking the kids swimming with me and getting them involved. It makes it way more fun and it means I get to spend more quality time with them.

Nick Catterall – Senior Specialist Consultant (Safety)
Quit smoking

Play the didgeridoo
It’s now been 10 years since I was bought a didgeridoo for my birthday by school friends on a biology trip to Australia. It’s been sat in my room ever since gathering dust, occasionally being brought out at parties (much to my neighbor’s dismay!). To mark the 10 year anniversary of my didgeridoo I’ve decided to learn to play it. I’ve found plenty of help on Google and have been using this as my main source. It’s certainly been my most unusual resolution to date, but it’s one that I plan to stick to nevertheless.
Top 5 Tips for Keeping your New Years Resolution
Richard Wiseman, a professor of psychology at Hertfordshire University, gives the following tips for boosting willpower and staying motivated.
- Make only one resolution. Choosing just one aspect of your health to improve will increase your chance of success.
- Plan your resolution in advance. This will give you time to think about your goal and how to achieve it.
- Don't repeat last year’s resolution. Or, if you do, at least pick a different technique to achieve it.
- Keep the resolution specific and write it down.
- Plan a reward for when you achieve your goal. This will give you something to focus on.
